This means equal access to employment and a better work-life balance. Flexible work can make work more equal in this country. The demand for flexibility is clear, and the government needs to act on it. Employees have already benefited from the newfound flexibility of work, and this should continue post-pandemic.
Otherwise, the gains made by working people throughout the pandemic will be undone. Marie Sherlock, labour employment and workers’ rights spokesperson, has insisted on this matter. It is time for the government to listen.
Flexible work can mean different things to different people. For some, it may mean being able to choose when to start and finish their working day. For others, it might mean being able to work from home part of the time. Whatever form it takes, flexible work is about giving employees more control over their working lives. And that can only be a good thing.
A right to flexible work would make a huge difference to working people in this country. It would give them the freedom to manage their own time and commitments, and would ultimately lead to a happier and more productive workforce. So let’s make it happen.
